On October 29, 2026, the Global Veterinary Surgical Equipment Innovation Alliance released its latest market tracking report in Chicago, USA. The data shows that the adoption rate of intelligent small animal orthopedic surgical tools represented by low-trauma electric bone drills, orthopedic navigation positioning systems and minimally invasive surgical instruments has increased by 52% year-on-year in 2026. The intraoperative operation precision of small animal orthopedic surgery has been improved by 40% compared with the traditional manual operation era, greatly reducing the operation threshold of complex minimally invasive orthopedic procedures.

This report covers 530 veterinary specialty hospitals in North America, Europe and Asia-Pacific, and the statistical results show that the new generation of small animal-specific electric bone drill systems has built-in torque automatic adjustment and bone density sensing functions, which can automatically adjust the drill bit speed according to different bone quality of pets of different ages and breeds. The incidence of drill bit slipping and cortical bone penetration during drilling has been reduced to less than 0.8%, and the risk of injury to the adjacent medullary cavity and soft tissue is effectively controlled. In minimally invasive orthopedic surgery scenarios such as arthroscopic examination and percutaneous fracture fixation, the use of miniaturized veterinary surgical instruments can reduce surgical trauma by more than 60%, and the post-operative wound healing cycle is shortened by nearly half.

The report also notes that the rapid popularization of digital DR imaging and intraoperative fluoroscopy systems in small animal orthopedic clinics provides core imaging support for precise surgical positioning. More than 70% of veterinary orthopedic surgeons surveyed said that the combination of intelligent surgical tools and real-time imaging navigation can achieve more accurate fracture reduction and internal fixation effect, and the surgical success rate of complex pelvic fractures and joint comminuted fractures has increased from 68% to 94%. At the same time, the standardized disinfection management system and sterile packaging design of dedicated orthopedic tools further reduce the risk of post-operative surgical site infection.

Industry experts said that the continuous innovation of small animal orthopedic surgical tools is promoting the overall capability of the veterinary orthopedic system to move towards minimally invasive, precise and intelligent direction. In the next 3–5 years, the further reduction of equipment cost and the popularization of surgeon training system will make high-level intelligent orthopedic surgical technology benefit more small companion animals in primary veterinary clinics.
