On August 18, 2026, in Tianjin, China, a biomedical material R&D center officially announced that its independently developed new small animal orthopedic calcium phosphate bone cement material has obtained US FDA veterinary medical device certification, and will start full-scale sales in the North American market in the fourth quarter of 2026. This material took 3 years of formula optimization and 650 in vivo implantation tests, achieving a 47% faster bone integration speed than traditional polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) bone cement, with no heat damage to surrounding tissues during the curing process.
This small animal orthopedic bone cement is made of self-setting calcium phosphate composite biological active factors, with a curing temperature lower than 32°C, which will not cause thermal damage to the surrounding bone tissue and nerve tissue after implantation. Its initial setting time is controlled at 8-12 minutes, which fully meets the clinical operation rhythm of small animal orthopedic surgery. Experimental data shows that after 12 weeks of implantation, 82% of the material area has been replaced by new natural bone tissue, which can provide long-term and stable mechanical support for the repair of small animal bone defect areas.
This bone cement material has good injectability, and can be accurately filled into tiny bone defect areas through a 1mm diameter syringe, which is very suitable for the treatment of small animal osteoporosis fracture filling, jaw defect repair and spinal fusion auxiliary fixation. After mixing, it has no volatile toxic and harmful substances, and will not cause foreign body reaction or inflammatory stimulation in the animal body. Clinical trial data from a veterinary teaching hospital in Texas shows that after treating 229 cases of feline old age osteoporosis fractures, the postoperative fracture healing time was shortened by 38%, and the incidence of postoperative pain reactions dropped from 21% to 3.5%.
